1st annual DMS Youth Essay Contest
DMS Youth Life is having its first essay contest! Our judge will be Sister Kaukab Shah of the Muslim Sisters of Dayton. There will two age groups 8-12 years and 13-18 years old.
One of our goals is to have this be an experience where your child can discuss issues with you, which makes your support critical! Please follow the guidelines below. These topics are great to discuss at the dinner table.
Age Group (8 to 12 year old)
1. To encourage Muslim youth to communicate with adults
Methods: An essay competition among elementary to middle school students that will range for 2 weeks
Topic: What does it mean to be a healthy person? How important is it to have an open communication with your parents? Is there any topic you shouldn’t discuss with your parents? What does Islam say about interacting with your parents? Please give an example. Quote from the Qur’an and/or Hadith as needed.
Rules: 250 word-limit, must state references.
Judging: local English professor who will screen and all who participated will be recognized at an awards ceremony at Dayton Mercy Society
Age Group ( 13 to 18 year old)
1. To increase Muslim youth awareness of current problems in the world
2. To motivate peaceful and effective action in the form of nonviolent prose
Methods: An essay competition among high school students that will range for 2 weeks
Topic: What is the difference between education and/or enlightenment can be the source of peaceful solutions?
Rules: 500 word-limit, must state references.
Judging: local English professor who will screen and all who participated will be recognized at an awards ceremony at Dayton Mercy Society.
